How the hand centrifuge is used
A centrifuge speeds up the settling of particles by spinning them in a circle. As the crank is turned, the head rotates and the buckets swing outward. The outward force on the denser particles is many times their weight, so a precipitate or suspended solid that would take hours to settle under gravity collects at the bottom of the tube in a short time.
