How it is used
In molecular biology many steps need only a brief spin: collecting reagent droplets from the lid and walls of a tube before PCR, bringing down condensate after heating, pushing a sample through a microfiltration or spin column, or settling cells from a small suspension. A mini centrifuge does these jobs next to the pipetting area without tying up a full-size micro-centrifuge.
The unit is built for continuous operation at 7000 rpm, so the length of each spin is set by the user. One rotor takes eight tubes from 0.2 to 2.0 mL; the other holds 16 PCR tubes or two 8-tube PCR strips. At 160 x 170 x 122 mm and 0.5 kg it fits on a crowded bench, and rubber feet keep it steady.
