How it is used
Not every sample should be spun hard. Cells that must stay alive and intact, such as sperm prepared for examination or washing in an infertility laboratory, and fragile blood cells, are best separated at low speed in a swing out head, where the tubes lie horizontal during the run and the pellet forms gently at the bottom. This centrifuge is built for that range: it runs up to 3000 rpm unloaded and 2850 rpm with a full load.
The 8-place swing out head takes 15 mL tubes directly, and the eight reduction adapters let the same head hold 12 x 100 mm test tubes, which are common for urine and serum work in pathology laboratories. The see-through acrylic lid lets the operator check that the head is turning smoothly without opening the chamber.
- Load balanced 15 mL tubes, or 12 x 100 mm tubes in the reduction adapters, into opposite buckets.
- Close the acrylic lid.
- Set the digital timer between 0 and 99 min.
