How the moisture analyser works
The analyser uses the loss-on-drying method. The sample is weighed, then heated by the halogen lamp while the built-in balance keeps weighing it; as water evaporates the mass falls until it stops changing. Moisture is reported as %M = (wet mass - dry mass) / wet mass x 100, or as %S, the solids left behind. The ATRO units express the same loss relative to the dry mass, which is the convention for wood, paper and some grains.
Halogen heating brings the sample to temperature in a short time, so a test that takes hours in a drying oven is completed in minutes. Heating can follow a ramp, a series of steps or a single temperature, and the seven preset drying modes and 49 stored recipes let routine products be tested the same way every time.
- Place the empty pan on its support with the pan lifter and tare the balance.
- Spread the sample thinly and evenly over the 100 mm pan.
- Choose a stored recipe or set the temperature and heating profile.
- Close the lid; the test starts automatically.
- Read the result in the chosen unit and save or send it through USB or RS-232.
