How it is used
Most glassware breakages in a teaching laboratory happen in the sink, where beakers and flasks slip from wet hands onto hard ceramic or steel. The mats are laid over the sink base and locked together at their edges, and the 10 mm resilient polymer absorbs the knock of a dropped item. Where the sink is an odd shape, the mats are simply cut to size.
The liner also acts as a trap: stoppers, stir bars and broken fragments stay on the mat instead of reaching and blocking the waste pipe. Out of the sink, the same mats serve as a draining rack, as protective bench matting or as a heat-proof gripper.
