How it is used
A chuck is a small clamp with jaws: tightening it closes the jaws around the shank of the needle and holds it firmly, and loosening it releases the needle. With a needle holder, a laboratory can keep a stock of plain needles and fit a fresh one whenever a point bends or dulls, instead of discarding a whole mounted needle.
