How the towel clip is used
Before an operation the patient is covered with sterile drapes that leave only the operating site exposed. Towel clips are placed where the drapes overlap to stop them slipping and, where needed, to anchor them to the skin, so that the sterile field stays intact for the whole procedure. Several clips are normally used together around the edge of the field.
In surgical and nursing training, students practise draping a manikin or model and securing the drapes with towel clips, and learn to pick out the clip on an instrument tray.
