Primary Colour Kit

Product Code : SCL-LAO-11119

Quick answer: The Primary Colour Kit demonstrates additive mixing of light: red, green and blue light are viewed separately and then overlapped to show the secondary colours and how the three primaries together approach white. It links optics lessons to the RGB principle used in screens and cameras. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for schools, colleges and universities.

How the colour mixing experiment is done

Coloured light mixes by addition. The eye has three kinds of colour receptors, most sensitive to red, green and blue, so these three colours of light act as primaries. Where red and green light overlap on a white surface the eye sees yellow, green and blue give cyan, and red and blue give magenta. Where all three overlap in suitable proportions the result is white.

Additive mixing is different from mixing paints, where each pigment absorbs part of the light and the mixture becomes darker. Comparing the two helps students see why the primaries of light differ from the primaries of paint.

  1. Set the apparatus on a stable bench in a darkened room.
  2. Observe the red, green and blue light one at a time.
  3. Overlap two primaries at a time and record the secondary colour produced.
  4. Overlap all three and note the colour where they meet.

Key features

  • Demonstrates additive mixing of the three primary colours of light.
  • Shows secondary colour formation where two primaries overlap.
  • Lets learners study how red, green and blue combine towards white.
  • Turns an abstract colour concept into a direct classroom observation.
  • Introduces the RGB principle used in digital displays and imaging.

Frequently asked questions

What are the primary colours of light shown by the kit?

Red, green and blue. Overlapping any two gives a secondary colour: yellow, cyan or magenta.

Why do red, green and blue light make white?

The eye has three types of colour receptors. When red, green and blue light stimulate all three in suitable proportions, the brain perceives white.

What is the price of the primary colour kit?

Prices are not published on the website. Add the primary colour kit to the Enquiry Cart with the Add To Cart button on this page, or email [email protected] with the house code SCL-LAO-11119 and the quantity, to receive a quotation.

Does Lab Exports manufacture the primary colour kit?

Yes. Lab Exports manufactures the primary colour kit at its works at 11/315, Lalita Park, Laxmi Nagar, Delhi 110092, under house code SCL-LAO-11119.
