Voltmeter
Product Code : EL-LM-10384
Quick answer: The Voltmeter is an analog moving-coil instrument for measuring the potential difference, or voltage, between two points in a circuit. It is mounted on a Bakelite or acrylic stand with lock-type terminals, reads to ±2% F.S.D. and comes in all common ranges. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for schools, colleges and universities.

How the voltmeter is used
A voltmeter is connected in parallel - directly across the component whose potential difference is wanted - without breaking the circuit. Internally it is a sensitive moving-coil movement in series with a high resistance, so it draws only a tiny current and disturbs the circuit as little as possible. The higher the voltmeter's resistance compared with the component, the more accurate the reading.
- Select a range above the voltage expected.
- Connect the voltmeter across the component, positive terminal to the higher-potential side.
- Switch on and read the pointer squarely from the front to avoid parallax.
- Switch off before moving the leads to the next component.
Together with an ammeter it forms the basic pair of instruments for verifying Ohm's law, V = I R, measuring the e.m.f. and internal resistance of a cell, and plotting V-I curves of resistors, lamps and diodes.

Frequently asked questions
How is a voltmeter connected?
In parallel, across the two points between which the potential difference is to be measured.
Why does a voltmeter have a high resistance?
So that it draws very little current from the circuit and does not change the voltage it is measuring.
What is the price of the Voltmeter?
Prices are not published on the website. Add the Voltmeter to the Enquiry Cart with the Add To Cart button on this page, or email [email protected] with the house code EL-LM-10384 and the quantity, to receive a quotation.
Does Lab Exports manufacture the Voltmeter?
