How the magnetic stirrer is used
Stirring with a magnet keeps the vessel open for other work: a burette can deliver titrant, a pH electrode can sit in the solution, or a flask can be stoppered, all while the liquid keeps moving. The low end of the range, from 50 rpm, gives gentle mixing that does not splash or draw in air, while speeds towards 1500 rpm dissolve solids quickly.
Two bar sizes are supplied: the 25 mm bar for small beakers and flasks, and the 35 mm bar for larger volumes up to the 2 litre capacity.
- Put the vessel in the centre of the top plate and add the stirrer bar that suits its size.
- Switch on at the ON/OFF switch; the indicator lamp lights.
- Turn the front-panel speed control up slowly until a steady vortex forms.
- Turn the speed down to zero before removing the vessel, then retrieve and rinse the bar.
