How it is used
Aluminium spreads heat quickly and evenly across the plate, and the ceramic coating protects it from chemical attack and scratching. The powerful heating elements bring samples up to temperature fast, while the magnetic drive beneath turns the stirrer bar so the whole volume heats evenly.
Because heat output and stirring speed have their own knobs, a solution can be stirred cold, heated without stirring, or both together. The support rod, boss head and clamping rod hold an external temperature probe in the liquid, so the solution temperature can be followed during the experiment.
- Fit the support rod and boss head, and clamp the external temperature probe if one is used.
- Place the vessel with the stirrer bar in the centre of the plate.
- Set the stirring speed with its knob, then turn up the heat output to the level needed.
- Turn both knobs to zero after use and let the plate cool before moving the unit.
