How it is used
A hotplate stirrer combines a heating plate with a magnetic drive, so a solution can be warmed while a stirrer bar keeps it moving. Stirring spreads the heat evenly, prevents local overheating and bumping at the base of the vessel, and speeds up dissolving and reactions.
With the temperature probe in the liquid, the controller regulates the heater to hold the solution at the set temperature. A 1-point offset calibration lets the reading be matched to a reference thermometer, and the 0-999 minute timer runs a heating or stirring step for a set time.
- Place the vessel with a stirrer bar on the 135 x 135 mm plate.
- Clamp the temperature probe so its tip is in the liquid but clear of the bar.
- Set the temperature, speed and time with the push buttons.
- Start and watch the LCD, which shows the timer, temperature and running status.
- After use, let the plate cool before handling, as it stays hot after switching off.
