How it is used
When a class or a quality-control laboratory must run the same procedure on several samples, heating them one after another wastes time and makes results harder to compare. A multi position mantle, sometimes called a battery mantle, holds 3 to 6 flasks in a row so all of them can be heated at once. Each position has its own controller, so one flask can be brought to reflux while another is held at a gentle simmer, or a position can be switched off without affecting the rest.
