How the rota mantle is used
In an unstirred flask, liquid next to the hot glass gets hotter than liquid in the middle, solids settle, and the contents can bump violently as vapour forms. Stirring while heating evens out the temperature, keeps solids suspended and helps reactions and dissolution go faster. The rota mantle combines both jobs in one unit: the upper tier is a heating mantle controlled by an energy regulator, and the lower tier holds the stirring motor, whose speed is varied smoothly without steps up to 1200 rpm.
It is used for refluxing reaction mixtures in organic synthesis, dissolving solids in hot solvents, preparing media and reagents, and extractions where the sample must stay in contact with the solvent.
