How it is used
For a litre of liquid, a flame or small hot plate is slow and heats the flask unevenly. The 1000 ml mantle surrounds the lower half of the flask with its heating bowl and delivers 350 W across that surface, which brings a full flask up to temperature quickly and keeps it at a steady boil for long reflux periods, such as ester preparations, soap making, steam and simple distillations, and Soxhlet-type extractions.
The analogue control is simple to use: turning the knob raises or lowers the heat, the power lamp shows the mantle is switched on, and the heating lamp shows when the element is drawing current, so the user can see the controller cycling once the set heat is reached.
