Heating Mantle 250ml

Heating Mantle 250ml

Product Code : EL-HM-10678

Quick answer: The 250 ml heating mantle is an electric flask heater shaped to cradle a 250 ml round bottom flask, used for reflux, distillation and other controlled heating of liquids without an open flame. A nichrome wire element woven into a glass fibre mat reaches up to 450 °C, moulded silica insulation holds the heat, and it runs on 220 V AC at 80 W. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for laboratories.

How the heating mantle is used

A round bottom flask touches a hot plate at only one point, and a flame heats it unevenly and is unsafe with flammable solvents. A heating mantle wraps the lower half of the flask in a bowl-shaped glass fibre mat with the heating wire woven through it, so heat reaches a large area of glass evenly. This reduces local overheating and bumping, and there is no open flame near solvent vapour.

In this 250 ml model the nichrome element can reach 450 °C at the element; the liquid in the flask stays well below that and is set by the controller and by the boiling point of the contents. The moulded silica powder insulation behind the mat keeps heat directed into the flask, and the coated steel case resists spills of common laboratory chemicals.

  1. Place the mantle on a firm bench and clamp a 250 ml round bottom flask so it sits snugly in the mat.
  2. Add the liquid and anti-bumping granules, and fit the condenser or distillation head.
  3. Connect the mantle to a 220 V AC supply.
  4. Set the controller low and increase gradually until the liquid boils or refluxes steadily.
  5. Switch off and let the flask and mantle cool before removing the flask.
