How the Teclu burner works
The Teclu burner, named after the chemist Nicolae Teclu, improves on the Bunsen burner in two ways. The bottom of the tube widens into a cone, and the air supply is set by a screwed regulator at the base of that cone rather than by a sleeve over side holes. The gas flow is set at the burner itself by a control needle in the jet. The conical section mixes gas and air thoroughly before they reach the top of the tube.
The result is a hotter, steadier flame than a basic Bunsen burner, with the needle and the air regulator giving fine control over its size and temperature. That suits glasswork such as bending and sealing tubing, soldering, and any heating where a sharp, hot flame is wanted.
