Digital Vernier Caliper
Product Code : SCL-LM-11247
Quick answer: The Digital Vernier Caliper is a sliding-jaw measuring instrument with an electronic display, used to measure outside and inside diameters, thickness, depth and steps without reading a vernier scale. Students use it in physics, engineering and mensuration practicals to collect dimensions for area and volume calculations. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for schools, colleges and universities.

How it is used
A caliper measures length by closing a pair of jaws on the object and reading how far the sliding jaw has moved along the beam. On a conventional vernier caliper the reading comes from lining up the main scale and the vernier scale; on the digital version an electronic sensor does this and the value appears on the display. Students record the result directly, and zero error is removed by setting zero with the jaws closed.
- Clean the measuring faces and the object.
- Close the jaws gently and press the zero control so the display reads zero.
- Choose the outside jaws, inside jaws or depth blade for the dimension required.
- Bring the jaws squarely against the object with light, even pressure and read the display.
- Take readings at several positions and average them.
Because the display removes scale-reading errors, the digital caliper is useful for checking answers obtained with a manual vernier caliper and for quick measurement in project and workshop work.

Frequently asked questions
What can the digital vernier caliper measure?
External dimensions such as width, thickness and outside diameter, internal diameters of holes and tubes, depths of holes and recesses, and steps.
Why set the digital caliper to zero before measuring?
Setting zero with the jaws closed removes zero error, so the display shows the true size of the object.
