How the model is used in teaching
The ear has three regions. The outer ear, the pinna and auditory canal, gathers sound; the middle ear, an air-filled space behind the eardrum, holds the three ossicles that pass vibrations inward and connects to the throat through the Eustachian tube; and the inner ear, set deep in the temporal bone, contains the cochlea for hearing and the semicircular canals for balance.
With six separable parts, the model can be taken apart in class to move from the outside of the ear to its deeper structures, and reassembled to show how they fit together. At 33 x 15 x 23 cm it works well for demonstration at the front of a class.
