How neodymium discs are used
Neodymium-iron-boron magnets are the strongest permanent magnets in general use, so even a 10 mm disc can out-pull a much larger ferrite or steel magnet. This makes them ideal where space is tight or a strong field is needed: dropping a disc through a copper or aluminium tube to show eddy-current braking, building a homopolar motor from a cell and a wire, or comparing the pull of different magnet materials.
Handle them with care. Strong discs snap together hard enough to pinch skin and can chip the coating; separate them by sliding, keep them away from young children, pacemakers, magnetic cards and electronic storage, and store them with spacers.
