How the moisture analyser is used
Moisture analysis by drying compares the mass of a sample before and after its water is driven off. Here a halogen infrared lamp heats the sample directly on the weighing pan while the balance records the falling mass at 0.001 g resolution; the result is shown as moisture (0-100%) or as dry residue. A PT-100 platinum resistance sensor measures the drying temperature, and two-point temperature compensation between 80 °C and 150 °C keeps the heating accurate.
Because the lamp heats the sample at up to 30 °C per minute, a test is completed far sooner than in a drying oven, which makes the analyser useful for checking raw materials on arrival and finished goods before dispatch in food, cosmetics, ceramics, agriculture and building materials.
- Tare the empty 110 mm pan.
- Spread a 2 g to 10 g sample evenly over the pan.
- Set the drying temperature between 50 °C and 160 °C.
- Start the test and let the analyser dry the sample until the mass is steady.
- Read the moisture or dry residue percentage, and send it through RS232 if a record is needed.
