How the model is used in teaching
With the two halves together, the model shows the brain as a whole: the folded cerebral hemispheres, the cerebellum at the back and the brain stem below. Separating the halves exposes the medial surface, the view in which the link between the hemispheres and the course of the brain stem are usually taught.
As a first brain model it suits higher secondary biology and introductory nursing anatomy, where students learn the main parts of the brain, the idea of left and right hemispheres, and the general functions of the cerebrum, cerebellum and medulla.
