How the kit is used in teaching
A mechanical wave carries energy from place to place without carrying the medium with it. With the kit, a teacher sets the elements moving and asks students to follow just one of them: it moves about a fixed point while the pattern runs along the row. Two elements one wavelength apart move exactly in step - they are in phase - while elements half a wavelength apart move in opposite directions.

- Start a single pulse and track it from one end to the other.
