How to choose and use it
Round jaws follow the curve of cylindrical glassware, so the clamping force is spread around the item instead of being concentrated on two flat faces. Choosing a jaw size close to the outside diameter of the glassware gives the most secure hold: 25 or 40 mm for tubes, adapters and burettes, 60 or 80 mm for flask necks and measuring cylinders, and the 100-150 mm sizes for flask bodies and wide vessels.
Being all stainless steel, the clamp resists corrosion from laboratory vapours and repeated cleaning. The smaller sizes have a 10 mm rod and the larger sizes a 12 mm rod, so check that the bosshead on the stand takes the rod size chosen.
- Measure the outside diameter of the glassware and choose the nearest jaw size.
- Fix the clamp rod, 10 mm or 12 mm, in a bosshead on the stand.
- Close the round jaws on the glassware and tighten until it is held securely without strain.
