Globe 12"
Product Code : SCL-PMP-11238
Quick answer: The 12 inch globe is a scale model of the Earth for classroom teaching. It is used to show the Earth's shape, how rotation causes day and night, and how latitude, longitude and time zones are laid out, all of which flat maps distort to some degree. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for schools and colleges.

How it is used
A globe is the only map that keeps the true shapes, areas and directions of the continents and oceans, because it has the same shape as the Earth. Flat maps must stretch some regions to lie flat, so a globe is the natural reference when students compare the sizes of countries or trace the shortest route between two places.
In physics and geography lessons it is used with a torch or lamp standing in for the Sun: turning the globe shows day and night sweeping across the Earth, and following the lines of longitude explains why local time changes by one hour for every 15 degrees east or west.
