Doppler Effect Kit
Product Code : SCL-PMP-11117
Quick answer: A Doppler effect kit lets a class hear the Doppler shift: a battery-operated buzzer with a steady tone is swung in a circle, and listeners hear the pitch rise as it approaches and fall as it moves away. It is used in sound and wave lessons and links to sirens, radar and astronomical red-shift. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for schools, colleges and universities.

How the Doppler effect is demonstrated
When a source of sound moves toward a listener, each wave crest is emitted a little closer than the one before, so the waves arrive bunched together and the pitch heard is higher. When the source moves away the crests are spread out and the pitch falls. For a source moving at speed vs through air in which sound travels at v, the frequency heard is f' = f v / (v - vs) on approach and f' = f v / (v + vs) as it recedes.
- Open the battery compartment, fit the batteries and close the cover securely.
- Switch on while holding the unit still so the class hears the steady baseline tone.
- Clear a radius of at least 2 metres around the demonstrator.
- Swing the unit in a steady circle; students around the room listen for the higher pitch as it comes toward them and the lower pitch as it moves away.
- Remove the batteries before storing the kit for a long period.
Before each lesson, check the cord or arm attachment for wear so the buzzer cannot come loose during rotation, and never swing the unit near students.
Key features
- Steady, constant-frequency tone makes the change in pitch easy to hear.
- Battery operated, with no power cord to trip over during the demonstration.
- On/off switch built into the battery compartment.
- Portable, suited to classroom use and mobile science kits.
- Links classroom acoustics to sirens, radar and astronomical red-shift.
Documentation and supply
A teacher's guide and lesson plan are supplied with the kit. Most Lab Exports products carry a one-year manufacturer warranty.
Lab Exports manufactures the Doppler effect kit at its works in Laxmi Nagar, Delhi, and supplies it to schools, colleges and universities in India and 60+ countries, handling the export documents for each shipment. More about the company is on the About Lab Exports page.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Doppler effect kit demonstrate?
It demonstrates the Doppler shift in sound: the pitch heard rises as the moving buzzer approaches the listener and falls as it moves away, while the tone emitted stays constant.
Is the Doppler effect kit safe to use in class?
It runs on batteries, so no mains supply is involved. The demonstrator should keep at least 2 metres clear, check the attachment for wear before use, and never swing the unit near students.
What is the price of the Doppler effect kit?
Prices are not published on the website. Add the Doppler effect kit to the Enquiry Cart with the Add To Cart button on this page, or email [email protected] with the house code SCL-PMP-11117 and the quantity, to receive a quotation.
Does Lab Exports manufacture the Doppler effect kit?
Yes. Lab Exports manufactures the Doppler effect kit at its works at 11/315, Lalita Park, Laxmi Nagar, Delhi 110092, under house code SCL-PMP-11117.
