Uses
DCC is the usual shorthand for double cotton covered wire: a copper conductor wrapped in an insulating covering so that neighbouring turns of a coil do not touch. That makes it a standard material for hand-wound coils in school physics, where the coil must carry current along its full length instead of shorting between turns.
Wound round a soft iron core, a coil of the wire becomes an electromagnet whose strength rises with the number of turns and the current. A coil connected to a galvanometer shows electromagnetic induction when a magnet is pushed in or pulled out, and the same wire is used to build simple motors, relays and transformer models.
