Constantan Wire (100gm)

Constantan Wire (100gm)

Product Code : SCL-EAE-11251

Quick answer: Constantan Wire (100 g), also called Eureka wire, is a copper-nickel resistance wire whose resistance stays nearly constant as it warms. It is cut to length for metre bridge and potentiometer wires, resistivity determination, Ohm's law circuits and experimental resistance coils. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for schools, colleges and universities.

Uses

Constantan, also sold as Eureka wire, is a copper-nickel alloy whose resistivity is many times that of copper and almost unaffected by temperature over the ordinary laboratory range. A constantan wire therefore gives a steady resistance per unit length, which is what a metre bridge or a potentiometer relies on.

  1. Confirm the gauge required by the experiment.
  2. Straighten a length of wire and check it for kinks or corrosion.
  3. Measure and cut the length needed, then fix it between terminals or along a scale.
  4. Measure the diameter with a screw gauge at several points and take the mean.
  5. Pass a small current, record V and I, and calculate resistance and resistivity.

In a metre bridge the balance length on the wire gives the ratio of two resistances; in a potentiometer the fall of potential per centimetre of wire lets students compare the EMFs of two cells or find internal resistance.

Key features

Frequently asked questions

Why is constantan used for metre bridge and potentiometer wires?

Its resistance per unit length hardly changes as the wire warms, so balance lengths stay reliable throughout the experiment.

Is constantan the same as Eureka wire?

Yes. Eureka is another name for constantan, a copper-nickel resistance alloy.

What is the price of the constantan wire (100 g)?

Prices are not published on the website. Add the constantan wire (100 g) to the Enquiry Cart with the Add To Cart button on this page, or email [email protected] with the house code SCL-EAE-11251 and the quantity, to receive a quotation.
