How the model is used in teaching
Most eye models show the eyeball on its own. This one keeps it in its natural setting: the bony orbit holds the eye together with the muscles that turn it, so students can see where the muscles attach and how the eyelids close over and protect the front of the eye.
The lacrimal apparatus is included as well - the lacrimal gland that produces tears and the tear duct that carries them away towards the nose. The model therefore supports lessons on protection and lubrication of the eye as well as on the layers of the eyeball.
