Lamps in Series Kit
Product Code : SCL-EAE-11195
Quick answer: The Lamps in Series Kit is a baseboard circuit with three MES lamp holders wired in series and an on-board DC voltmeter and ammeter. Students use it to measure one current through every lamp and the voltage drop across each, and to see all lamps go out when one is removed. It runs on 3-6 V DC. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for schools and colleges.

How the series circuit experiment is done
In a series circuit the lamps share one current path, so the same current flows through each lamp and the supply voltage divides between them: V = V1 + V2 + V3. The total resistance is the sum of the lamp resistances, R = R1 + R2 + R3, so each extra lamp lowers the current and every lamp glows more dimly.
- Place the board on a dry bench, fit the three bulbs and connect a 3-6 V DC source to the input posts.
- Switch on and note the ammeter reading and the brightness of the lamps.
- Use the voltmeter to measure the voltage across each lamp in turn and then across all three.
- Add the three lamp voltages and compare the total with the supply voltage.
- Unscrew one bulb and observe that the whole circuit stops working.
The ammeter reading is the same at every point in the loop and the lamp voltages add up to the supply voltage. From these readings students apply Ohm's law to each lamp and to the whole circuit, and practise reading analogue meters.

Frequently asked questions
What does the lamps in series kit show?
It shows that one current flows through all lamps in series, that the supply voltage divides between the lamps, and that removing one lamp breaks the circuit so every lamp goes out.
Which meters are fitted on the board?
An analogue DC voltmeter with a 0-6 V range and an analogue DC ammeter, so students read voltage and current without separate meters.
What is the price of the lamps in series kit?
