Dynamo Model AC DC

Dynamo Model AC DC

Product Code : SCL-EAE-11120

Quick answer: The Dynamo Model AC DC is a teaching model that shows how a generator turns mechanical work into electrical energy by electromagnetic induction, and how alternating and direct current output differ. Teachers use it in electricity and magnetism lessons to connect generator theory with something students can watch. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for schools, colleges and universities.

How the model is used in teaching

A dynamo works on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction: when a coil turns in a magnetic field, the magnetic flux through it keeps changing and an EMF is induced. The faster the coil turns, the faster the flux changes and the larger the EMF. Because the induced EMF reverses every half turn, the natural output of a rotating coil is alternating.

In an AC generator the coil ends are taken out through slip rings, so the output alternates. In a DC dynamo a split-ring commutator reverses the connections every half turn, so the current in the external circuit always flows the same way, though it still rises and falls. A model that shows both lets students compare the two outputs on one machine.

  1. Place the model on a stable, dry surface and check it for damage.
  2. Identify the AC and DC positions or terminals on the model.
  3. Operate the drive gently at a steady speed and observe the output indication.
  4. Change between AC and DC output and compare what is observed.
  5. Connect a meter only after checking that its range suits the model's output.

Use the model under teacher supervision and keep fingers, loose clothing and leads away from moving parts.

Key features

  • Shows mechanical energy being converted into electrical energy.
  • Demonstrates both alternating and direct current generation.
  • Reinforces Faraday's law: a changing magnetic flux induces an EMF.
  • Suitable for supervised school, college and science-room demonstrations.
  • Pairs with lessons on magnetism, electromagnetic induction and power generation.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Dynamo Model AC DC demonstrate?

It demonstrates electricity generation by electromagnetic induction, the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy, and the difference between AC and DC output.

What is the difference between AC and DC output in a dynamo?

With slip rings the output reverses direction every half turn (AC); with a split-ring commutator the connections are swapped each half turn so the output keeps one direction (DC).
