How the delivery table is used
A delivery table has to serve two positions. For a gynaecological examination or a speculum procedure, the patient lies with her legs supported in the knee crutches and the leg section lowered out of the way. For the second stage of labour, the backrest is raised so that the mother is semi-sitting, and the leg section is dropped fully down to 90 degrees so that the midwife or doctor can work close at the foot of the table.
The backrest is set with a secured pawl and gear ratchet, which locks at each step and cannot slip under load. A lever handle tilts the pelvic section into the Trendelenburg position, head lower than pelvis, which is needed in some obstetric emergencies. The slide-out 4 L stainless steel basin-tray collects fluids during delivery and is removed for cleaning.
