How it is used
Gravity filtration separates an insoluble solid from a liquid: a folded filter paper is seated in a glass funnel, the mixture is poured in, and the filtrate runs through into the vessel below while the residue stays on the paper. The funnel must be held steady at the right height, with its stem touching the inside wall of the receiving beaker so the filtrate runs down without splashing.
