How the model is used in teaching
A two-part heart is often the first model students handle when they learn about double circulation. With the model closed, the teacher can point out the great vessels leaving and entering the heart; with it opened, the same vessels can be traced into the chambers they serve.
The model supports the standard lesson sequence: deoxygenated blood returns from the body to the right atrium, passes to the right ventricle and out to the lungs through the pulmonary artery, then returns through the pulmonary veins to the left atrium and left ventricle before leaving through the aorta. The valves between these chambers show why blood moves in one direction only.
