How the model is used in teaching
At four times life size, the heart becomes large enough to work with as a group demonstration piece. Opening the model into its three parts takes students from the outer surface of the heart and the great vessels at its top to its internal structure.
The model is built around the two circuits of the circulation. In the pulmonary circuit, the right ventricle pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs and oxygenated blood returns to the left atrium. In the systemic circuit, the left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood through the aorta to the body, and deoxygenated blood returns to the right atrium through the venae cavae.

- Open the model into its three parts to show the internal structure.
- Trace the pulmonary circuit from the right ventricle to the lungs and back.
- Trace the systemic circuit from the left ventricle through the aorta.
