How the model is used in teaching
The hip is a ball-and-socket synovial joint: the rounded head of the femur sits deep in the cup-shaped acetabulum of the pelvis. This deep fit, held by strong ligaments, makes the hip very stable for carrying body weight while still allowing movement in several planes.
