How the model is used in teaching
The heart is a double pump with four chambers. The right atrium and ventricle receive deoxygenated blood from the body through the venae cavae and send it to the lungs through the pulmonary artery; the left atrium and ventricle receive oxygenated blood from the pulmonary veins and pump it to the body through the aorta. Valves keep the flow moving in one direction.
At four times natural size, the chambers and vessels are large enough to point out to a whole class. Opening the three parts reveals the interior, so students can study the chambers, trace the systemic and pulmonary routes and practise naming structures before practical assessments.
